Sarasota County’s Environmental Lands Celebration Event at Deer Prairie Creek Preserve

Land Acquisition and Land Management

Sarasota County has two voter-approved programs dedicated to acquiring land for new parks and nature preserves. These initiatives help expand public access to beaches and waterfronts while protecting vital natural habitats through land purchases and conservation easements.

Park Planning

Each park is evaluated based on its current condition, usage patterns, community needs and future potential. Local recreation trends and public feedback help shape master plans and design concepts that guide improvements, ensuring parks remain welcoming, accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Smaller upgrades are managed by County staff and contractors, while larger Capital Improvement Projects are designed and built by professional consultants selected through formal county processes.
