May 31, 2026
Construction contract negotiations are still underway. We anticipate sharing a construction schedule later this summer.
In the meantime, visitors may notice additional improvements to the park. Parks staff will be installing a second 2-pole shelter in the upcoming months.
April 30, 2026
Funding is now in place for the replacement of sidewalks, landscape areas, and the playground. Construction contracts are currently being finalized. Permitting review for the playground improvements is expected to begin next month, and we anticipate announcing a construction schedule this summer.
March 31, 2026
The coordination of construction planning continues. A schedule for construction should be available in the next few months.
February 28, 2026
Plans for the replacement of sidewalks, landscaping, and the playground are complete, and construction contracts are in progress. We anticipate work to begin on the playground by the end of summer and will share a detailed construction timeline as soon as it becomes available.
Repairs have also been progressing on site. The shade structure at the south end of the park near the open play field has been replaced, and the fire hydrant at the north end of the park has also been replaced.
January 31, 2026
The south playfield two-pole shelter is currently being replaced. Final revisions to the playground plan are underway to include a wider variety of play elements for all age groups. A construction timeline, including temporary closure dates, will be announced soon.
December 31, 2025
Park's Planning Team is working closely with the playground designer to finalize plans for the exciting new play structures. Stay tuned—an update with the final design and construction timeline will be coming soon!
November 30, 2025
A revised design concept and updated pricing were received from the playground vendor in November. The Parks, Planning and Development (PPD) team is currently working closely with leadership to finalize a funding plan that will support the implementation of this project.

Our Parks Planning Team is actively working with a professional playground manufacturer to reimagine and enhance the park experience for all visitors.
In addition to the updated playground, the plan includes the creation of a spacious open lawn area—perfect for picnics, casual games, or simply relaxing in the sun.
These improvements are part of our ongoing commitment to making Red Rock Park a welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant space for the entire community. Whether you're looking to play, unwind, or connect with nature, the new design will offer more diverse opportunities for recreation and relaxation.
September 30, 2025
With the newly renovated multi-purpose field complete, the next phase of park enhancements will begin next year. Planned upgrades include a redesigned playground, improved sidewalks, and a reconfigured parking area—making better use of space while preserving the park’s natural beauty.
A new loop sidewalk will frame a central lawn, creating a flexible gathering space beneath the grand oak canopy. Along the loop, visitors will find a Little Free Library, shaded picnic area, chess table, benches, and access to the restroom, drinking fountain, and a gated entry to the new playground.
Parking lot improvements will include resurfacing, a new accessible space, and a bike rack.
The updated playground will maintain its current size but offer a more organized layout with enhanced shade coverage. New features will include:
- 2 belt swings
- 1 nest swing
- 1 toddler swing
- New play areas for ages 2–5 and Refurbished 5–12 play area
- A brand-new Red Rock Climbing feature
- Full perimeter fencing for safety
Please note: Sidewalk and playground areas will be closed to the public from winter through early spring. Check back here for schedule updates as construction approaches.

We’re thrilled to share that final designs are underway for a series of enhancements to park circulation—making it easier and more enjoyable for everyone to explore and experience the park. But that’s not all! Our team is also working closely with a top playground vendor to select brand-new play equipment that will compliment the play structures that will remain. More fun and adventure to our community’s youngest visitors is coming soon!

After the exciting June 19th public meeting, we launched an ambitious plan to revitalize the park! We're upgrading playground equipment, enhancing picnic shelters, improving sidewalks, and adding new amenities. Right now, we're collaborating with contractors to secure the best pricing and finalize construction schedules. Stay tuned for more updates as we transform the park into an even better community space!

On June 19, 2025, at 6 p.m., Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources (PRNR) held a virtual public meeting to provide an update on the Red Rock Park improvements project. The public was invited to email questions and comments to PRNRmeetings@scgov.net. Nicole Rissler, Director of PRNR, addressed all questions and comments.
A PowerPoint presentation highlighted three proposed options for park improvements, with a focus on upgrading playground equipment, picnic shelters, sidewalk circulation system and site furnishings.
