Pinecraft Park

Post Date:06/03/2026 9:30 AM

Project Description

With mature oak trees, Pinecraft Park is a quiet oasis and community gathering space along Phillippi Creek. The park is located south of Bahia Vista Street in North Sarasota County and serves a diverse population. Pinecraft Park has a pavilion with restrooms, shuffleboard courts, a sand volleyball court, asphalt trails, natural surface trails, and playground equipment. Proposed improvements include adding bleachers with shade structures at both the volleyball and shuffleboard courts, replacing the aging playground equipment and two-pole picnic shelters, and accessibility improvements.

The Design‑Build team is continuing to develop the final construction plans throughout the summer as part of the permitting process. Once the plans are approved, we will share a construction timeline, with work anticipated to begin in late 2026.

In the meantime, visitors may notice ongoing maintenance projects around the park. These include the removal of invasive plant species along the woodland trails, dredging of Phillippi Creek along the park’s western edge, and roof repairs on the large pavilion.

Our Design‑Build team is continuing work on the 75% plans, which are expected in May. Final plans will be shared this summer along with a construction timeline, with work anticipated to begin in late 2026.

In the coming months, you may also see ongoing maintenance throughout the park as part of separate efforts. These include removing invasive plant species along the woodland trails, dredging Phillippi Creek along the park’s western boundary, and repairing the roof on the large pavilion.

A public meeting was held on March 19 to review the 30 percent design plans for the new playground, sidewalks, landscaping, and other site improvements. Community feedback from that meeting will help guide the development of the 75 percent plans. Final plans will be shared in the coming months, along with a construction timeline, with work anticipated to begin in late 2026.

Visitors may also notice ongoing maintenance projects throughout the park. These include the removal of invasive species along the woodland trails, dredging of Phillippi Creek along the park’s western boundary, and roof repairs on the large pavilion.

February 28, 2026

Staff recently received 30% design plans from the design‑build team for a new playground, sidewalks, landscaping, and other site amenities. These plans will be shared in the coming months, along with a construction timeline that is expected to begin in late 2026.

Over the next several months, visitors may also notice ongoing park maintenance through separate projects, including the removal of invasive species along the woodland trails, dredging of Phillippi Creek along the park’s western edge, and truss repairs on the large pavilion.

The design team has completed schematic plans and addressed initial feedback from County agencies. Current efforts are focused on detailed designs for key features, including the playground, site circulation, additional seating at the shuffleboard courts, and drainage systems. The 30% design plans are expected to be ready for review by the end of February.

We’re excited to share that the shuffleboard shade structure—lost during Hurricane Milton—has now been fully restored! This marks an important step in bringing comfort and functionality back to our community spaces.

Looking ahead, we’re in the final stages of securing the design-build contract for the larger park redesign. Once finalized, we look forward to launching the design process in the coming months and engaging with the community as plans take shape.

Stay tuned for updates as we continue to enhance and reimagine our park spaces!

We’re excited to share that a contract is currently being finalized with our Design-Build team. This important step will pave the way for the redesign of the park, which is scheduled to begin this fall. The upcoming improvements will reflect community input and enhance the park’s overall accessibility, safety, and enjoyment.

In the meantime, reconstruction of the shuffleboard shade structure—lost during Hurricane Milton—is set to begin this month. Once the structure is rebuilt, we will collaborate with the community to plan and implement additional enhancements, including new lighting, updated fencing, and improved sidewalks in the surrounding area.

August 31, 2025

Contract negotiations are actively underway with the selected design-build teams, bringing us closer to finalizing the partnerships that will help bring this vision to life. These discussions are a critical step in ensuring we align on quality, innovation, and community-focused design.

In parallel, we’ve successfully completed all the required reports for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)—a major milestone that supports funding and compliance for this transformative project. These reports reflect our commitment to transparency, accountability, and thoughtful planning every step of the way.
