Phillippi Estate Park Farmhouse
Post Date:06/10/2025 8:00 AM
Project Description
Phillippi Estate Park, located at 5500 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, is a 60-acre park that showcases the historic Edson Keith Mansion and Farmhouse. Plans for the Edson Keith Farmhouse include its restoration and use as an interpretive center featuring both temporary and permanent exhibits.
History
Edson Keith constructed the Phillippi Estate Farmhouse in 1916, where he resided during the mansion's construction. Upon completion, the Keith family moved into the mansion, repurposing the farmhouse as accommodation for farmworkers and domestic staff. The property's second owner, Mae Hansen Prodie, a doll company proprietor from Chicago, leased the farmhouse to guests seeking a country experience in Sarasota.
After Prodie's passing, Sarasota County purchased the estate in a referendum in 1986 for 5.2 million.
