Connections to The Legacy Trail
North Port Connectors
On Nov. 6, 2018, Sarasota County voters approved a bond referendum to acquire and extend The Legacy Trail north nearly 8 miles along the existing railroad corridor into downtown Sarasota. In addition, the referendum also made it possible to enhance the connection from The Legacy Trail to the City of North Port.
Utilizing a variety of road facilities including multi-use recreational trails (MURT), shared use paths and bike lanes, users can access the three North Port Connectors:
South Powerline Trail
A hard packed improved trail surface.
Alphabet Trail
A natural surface trail that travels through Deer Prairie Creek Preserve.
The North Port Connector Trail
The North Port Connector Trail travels through the City of North Port, and hugs the edge of Schewe Tract, which is co-managed by Southwest Florida Water Management District and Sarasota County. Of the three connector trails, this paved trail provides a typical Legacy Trail-like experience.
All three routes provide a unique user experience, and spectacular natural area views.
The Legacy Trail Capital Campaign
Sarasota County is currently seeking donors who wish to contribute to the trail. Various donor opportunities are available to support The Legacy Trail and trailheads. With these donations, the community will have supported over $1,000,000 towards The Legacy Trail.

Please be cautious on the trail as trail traffic will be stopped by flaggers while the equipment is actively working and will pause every five to 10 minutes to let traffic through. Work will be conducted Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dates are tentative and subject to change.
January 12 starts the Transmission Water Main Project on Ashton Road near Ashton Trailhead. The trailhead and trail will remain open, but traffic on Ashton Rd will be down to one lane. Please use caution and follow flaggers instructions for intermittent stops at the intersection. For more information please visit, Pump Station #3 Improvements & Transmission Main.
Ongoing: Robotic mower and tree trimming will be along The Legacy Trail at various days and times. Please be cautious on the trail as the equipment is working.
